No Christmas miracle this year
The Minor Peewee Select team faced a tough challenge from a strong Major Peewee/Minor Peewee split team from Centre Wellington.  Our boys let themselves get a little intimidated  and fell behind 2 - 0.  But their confidence and intensity grew as the game went on, and they rallied nicely in the third period.  Alas, the Christmas miracle was not to be.  Rookie Reporter Marg (filling in for Curtis) has the full story...

Sunday, December 23rd is Game 6 for the Minor Peewee Select Wolves facing off against Centre Wellington. The Wolves are missing Justin, Jeremy, and Braden tonight due to the approaching holidays.  But never fear, we have Bryce wearing number 5 and James in number 4 stepping up to ensure their spots are well taken care of. An intern student is also filling in tonight for the team’s regular sports reporter.

The first minute of play does not see our usual quick goal, but rather lots of action in front of Chris, and one great save after another! Josh and Spencer getting a few nice passes and shots, but there is more action in our end, in front of Chris. A face-off in our end sends one shot through the traffic and IN, with Centre Wellington first on the scoreboard at 4:02. Back and forth it goes with some good shots and great attempts by the offensive Wolves. Casey and Johnathon digging hard to keep it in. Curtis gets a great drive to their end, with Ian taking an opportunity to snap off a couple great shots before the period closes.

Second period sees more of the fast action and lots of back and forth play. Brody gets a couple great opportunities to get some shots off. A quick breakaway by Centre Wellington is shut down by Chris with another save, but the loose rebound gets popped in, making it an 0-2 game. Three minutes into the 2nd, Josh breaks out with two Wolves nearby, takes a great shot that miraculously didn’t get over the line, and the play is stopped by a high stick. A picture perfect pass from Xavier and Ian  to Josh gets the first one IN for the Wolves:  1-2. Chris is keeping the score from racking up with save after save, finishing off his half of the game with an awesome glove stop! The fast, hard work continues with Centre Wellington dominating the action in our end. Emmett is making lots of saves but a high, fast shot gets past in the top right corner: 1-3.

The final period sees no less energy or speed from either side. Lots of saves, lots of effort. Two minutes into the third, Spencer sends it to Curtis who puts it in with authority: 2-3. In and out; back and forth – this rookie reporter can’t keep up! Tristan and Xavier take the action to their end with another great shot and some great passing to Josh who gets it through to tie it up 3-3. But there is no rest. Another fast, high shot from Centre Wellington finds its way over Emmett, with 5:40 left on the scoreboard, to take back the lead. Centre Wellington continues with the constant pressure, and the Wolves are right there to match it. One minute left, and the Wolves' determination keeps it going with Johnathon taking a blast from the line; Josh as well; back again with another save by Emmett. The goalie is pulled, but the game ends with Centre Wellington taking the win - but not the Wolves’ spirit. A well-fought battle against a big team. Well done, Wolves... and Merry Christmas!
