ATOM ICE WOLVES WINNERS OF THE BYRON OPTIMIST TOURNAMENT
February 2, Groundhog Day, will it be six more weeks of snow, wind, and cold or an early spring?

No Shadow, an early spring. Woo Hoo....
On this following day February 3 it didn't matter as we were walloped with snow on the way down to London.
With the 401 closed at Hwy 97 many of the Ice Wolves team scrambled to get to their first game that afternoon.
All the boys did manage to get to the game.

This was the teams last tournament; The West London Byron Optimist (formerly BMO) Tournament Feb 3-5.
The first matchup was against the Vaughan Rangers. The Ice Wolves came out fast and set the pace scoring early and often.
After the first period the team adjusted the positions. A few D men were given the opportunity as a forward and the same for some forwards moving back to sharpen their skills on defence.
The end result was a 5-0 win over Vaughan and the shut out going to Jayden V.
Goals: Sam R, Ty L, Drew S, Jake G, Cooper S
Assists: Sam R, Ty L, Bradley D

Game 2 played at the Western Fair Complex saw the team earn a 7-0 win over Oakridge Aeros. The shut out going to Bryden A.
Goals: Colby K, Ty L, Jake G, Cooper S, Sam V, Jacob F, Connor L,
Assists: Colby K, Drew S, Sam V, Jacob F, Gary L, Connor L 2, Hayden S

Game 3 had a change of venue, I will not repeat the name and hope to never visit that arena again. The coldest rink in the world and the smallest lobby. The Ice Wolves took on the East Gwillimbury Eagles. The team won 9-0.
If you are keeping track that is the third shutout for our goalies.
Jayden V and Bryden A with the shared shutout.
Goals: Ty L 2, Josh L, Bradley D, Jake G, Cooper S 2, Sam V, Jacob F
Assists: Colby K 3, Sam R, Josh L, Jake G, Cooper S 2, Jaxson S, Jacob F, Connor L 2,

Game 4 was a spirited affair against a very undisciplined Sarnia Jr. Sting team. The Ice Wolves kept taking it to the Sarnia team and capitalized on the power play to come away with a 6-0 victory and a berth in the final.
Bryden A with the shutout. Great team effort by the goalies, defence and forwards to earn 4 games of shutout hockey.
Goals: Colby K, Sam V 2, Jacob F 2, Gary L
Assists: Colby K, Ty L, Josh L, Jake G 2, Jaxson S, Sam V, Connor L

The Final was set the two top teams from both pools would faceoff. West London Hawks vs. Waterloo Ice Wolves
The Ice Wolves looked a bit sluggish from the drop of the puck and London came out strong taking a 1-0 lead that held for half of the game. When the Ice Wolves finally came alive the responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead.
London would score with minutes left in the third. With 1:47 left on the clock London would pull the goalie for the extra attacker. The Ice Wolves were unable to score in the empty net. The last play a faceoff in the Ice Wolves zone with 3 seconds left on the clock. The Ice Wolves would win the faceoff to the boards and time would run out.
The Ice Wolves become the 2013 Byron Optimist Champions.
Bryden A with the win in goal.
The goaltending tandem of Bryden A and Jayden V allowing only 2 goals in 5 games and 4 shutouts.
Every player on the team had a point in this tournament.
Goals: Colby K, Cooper S, Gary L
Assists; Bradley D, Cooper S, Ethan W, Sam V

Great work team!
