Welcome to Initiation!
Hello everyone and welcome to the Waterloo Minor Hockey Initiation Program.

With the season just around the corner, this article contains some important information for parents.

  • First and foremost, we are looking for volunteers. Based on current registration numbers, it looks like we will have three teams in the U6 age division. We need a head coach for each team to organize practices and games. We will also need several on-ice volunteers to assist the head coach in running practices. At this age, practices run best with many small group stations, which means we need a large number of assistant coaches. If you are interested, please reach out to me at [email protected].
  • Parents are not permitted to be on the ice unless they have registered with me as coaches of the Initiation Program. Coaches are required to have a valid police check on file with Waterloo Minor Hockey. If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to me as soon as possible at [email protected].
  • Evaluations will be used to divide players into teams based on their skill level. Doing this will provide the best possible learning experience for each player. I am also looking for volunteers to help with running the evaluation sessions.
  • When arriving at evaluations, we will have a table set up with pinnies for each player. Please stop at the table and confirm your registration before getting started. Pinnies can be returned at the end of your second session on Saturday.
  • Practices will be a combination of skills sessions run by Eric Calder/Skills Plus, powerskating sessions run by qualified instructors, and practices designed by Hockey Canada and facilitated by our head coaches.
  • We will also be participating in the Timbits intermission program at the Kitchener Rangers games. More details will follow once the teams are set.
I look forward to meeting all of you and can't wait to get started.
