Welcome to Initiation!
Hello everyone and welcome to the Waterloo Minor Hockey Initiation Program.

For important association-wide updates, such as COVID-19 information, please view the News Articles on the home page.

For program specific information, I will attempt to cover the important details here, but you can reach out to me any time at [email protected]

  • First and foremost, we are looking for volunteers. Based on current registration numbers, it looks like we will have three teams in the U4/U5 age division. We need a head coach for each team to organize practices and games. We will also need several on-ice volunteers to assist the head coach in running practices. At this age, practices run best with many small group stations, which means we need a large number of assistant coaches. If you are interested, please fill out the application form under the "Coaches" heading at the top of the website and/or reach out to me at [email protected]
  • Secondly, since the U4 players are brand new to hockey and the U5 players had an unusual season last year, this will be everyone's first time through this program. More details will become available as we get closer to the start of the season. For now, I can share that practices will take place on Friday evenings, and games will take place on Saturday mornings, all at RIM Park. Practices will be a combination of skills sessions run by Eric Calder/Skills Plus, powerskating sessions run by qualified instructors, and practices designed by Hockey Canada and facilitated by our head coaches.
  • While we don't have an evaluation schedule yet, they will likely take place at the end of September or early October. This will be used to divide players into two teams based on their skill level. Doing this will provide the best possible learning experience to each player. I am also looking for volunteers to help with running the evaluation sessions.
I look forward to meeting all of you and can't wait to get started.
