Wolves Under Manned Come Out on Top
The Waterloo Wolves players fought hard for a 2 to 0 win over the St. Thomas Jr Stars win despite an extra short bench in the game Sunday afternoon.

In what was a hard hitting and emotional game, the Wolves went into the game missing Cole Hunsberger and Ben Yong, and then lost both Riley Webster and Cole Ledgister on questionable ejections from hitting infractions. The Stars also had a player ejected.

Nate Sexton recorded his first shutout of the season and made a stellar play leaving the cease to prevent a 2 on 0 break from the Stars. Sexton was on his game and dialed in all afternoon.

Matthew Ball opened the scoring in the dying seconds of the first period from Ledgister and Jackson Deitz. The goal stood the as the winner before Griffin Beddis redirected a Jaxon Broda shot for the insurance marker.

The Wolves forwards worked hard for the team all game. Jackson Andrews was effective in both ends of the rink supporting the defense in the Wolves zone and creating plays in the Stars end. Hunter McMurdo made several key plays in the defensive zone for his team. Both Ethan Wasylyshyn and Michael Wei were constantly attacking the Stars net and back checking hard for their team. Tim Hodson provided the energy the team is accustomed to from him. He even put his team first and played on defense when the team needed help. Declan Uniac continued his solid play and was a threat in the game as well. He made a key play in his end to prevent the Stars from getting on the board.

With so many players out on defense the team hard to lean heavy on Jackson McNichol, Jackson Dietz and Cooper Gaul. All three were steady players for the Wolves. They also provided the grit needed to come out with the win. The team asked a lot from the players on defense, and they didn’t disappoint.

This was a character win and showed the team is dedicated to playing for each other. They have the focus needed to become champions. With a perfect start of 4 and 0, the team will play three games this coming week. They will need to continue the effort they have had in getting to the top of the standing.

GO Wolves!
