Rumble on the Rink 2016 Champs
On the weekend of September 16-18 the Minor Midget AA Wolves traveled to Detroit, Michigan for the 2016 Rumble on the Rink tournament. Participating in the U16 division, the boys were up against some tough opponents in this blended age division of 2000 and 2001 born players. Battling through the first three games the boys progressed to the semi-final in the wildcard spot and faced a very strong Pittsburgh Vipers team. With grit, determination and amazing goal-tending the Wolves got the 4-2 win to advance to the final against the Kensington Valley Raiders, a team made up of all but one 2000 born players.
The final proved to be an exciting back and forth affair, with both teams trading goals throughout. The Raiders managed to tie the game in the final seconds to force overtime. Beginning overtime at 4 on 4, the Raiders took an early penalty and the Wolves seemed poised to pounce with the 4 on 3 advantage but alas the Wolves also took a penalty to return to even strength at 3 on 3. With the seconds ticking away in the Raiders penalty and their penalized player about to return to the ice the Wolves jumped on a loose puck in the offensive zone and potted the winner.
Battered, bruised and exhausted the boys donned their championship hats and proudly headed home. What a way to start the season!
